The Shelburne Middle School Band totals more than two hundred members in grades six through eight.  With a school population of less than six hundred, approximately thirty-five percent of the students who attend Shelburne choose to become members of the Band.
Students begin receiving instruction on their chosen instrument at the beginning of their sixth grade year.  The sixth grade Band members meet daily, in forty minute sessions. The seventh and eighth grade Bands each meet for eighty-five minutes and alternate their days following the school's A/B class schedule.  The sixth and seventh grade band classes are divided by instrument type.  The eighth graders rehearse as a full ensemble.
Band members in the seventh and eighth grades enjoy monthly social activities created to build the important attributes of inclusion, respect and camaraderie that enhance an outstanding musical organization and encourage positive development of young citizens.
A busy calendar of performances exposes the students to the thrill of sharing their talent with appreciative audiences.  The Shelburne Band can be seen and heard marching in the local Veteran's Day and Christmas Parades. During Winter and Spring Concerts, the Bands, the Shelburne Choir, and a student Art Show annually bring huge audiences into the school's Hern Gym for outstanding evenings of free music and art.    Additionally, students perform throughout the community as members of the Band's Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Jazz Band.  At District and State events, the Shelburne Bands traditionally earn Superior ratings for their performances.
